Constructed Wetlands for Water Quality Improvement: A Synthesis on Nutrient Reduction from Agricultural Effluents

چکیده
Abstract. Excess nutrients from agricultural settings contribute to surface water and groundwater impairment. Constructed wetlands have been widely used for quality protection in various systems. We a synthesis approach document the performance of constructed nutrient removal range landscapes geographic regions with following objectives: (1) review current use applications, (2) summarize efficiency wetlands, (3) identify usage costs associated wetlands. reviewed over 130 publications reports characterize types effluents: cropland subsurface drainage, wastewater livestock production, greenhouse, aquaculture, hydroponic Data studies indicate that are efficient protecting production settings. However, differences wetland characteristics reported by suggest standards needed ensure goals met based on design. Researchers should consider including basic parameters published reports, influent effluent concentrations, hydraulic retention time, loading rate, watershed treatment ratios, plant species relative cover. Future explore cost-benefit analyses assess feasibility potential promotion incentive programs nonpoint-source pollution using these systems Keywords: Agricultural wastewater, quality, Aquaculture, Cropland runoff, Greenhouse, Hydroponic, Livestock, Review, Subsurface, Treatment wetland.

15 صفحه اولConstructed Wetlands as a Natural Resource for Water Quality Improvement in Malaysia
Tropical wetlands have numerous natural functions, one of which is the filtration of wastewater for water quality improvement. The aim of this paper is to investigate the performance of constructed wetlands in Universiti Sains Malaysia for water quality treatment of stormwater runoff. A total of 17 sampling stations were selected from different sections of possessing different compositions, cha...

This paper illustrates the role of plants to assist the treatment of water pollution in man-made wetlands in tropical and temperate climates. It also considers the potential for environmental education of these wetland systems. The management and natural treatment of pollution is described in the Mai Po Marshes, Hong Kong and a wetland in London which is also an important site for birds. The de...
متن کاملScreening-Level Assessment of Water Quality Improvement from Wetlands
BACKGROUND: Water quality improvement is potentially an important function of wetlands. Mechanisms that occur in wetlands, such as sedimentation, filtration, adsorption, precipitation, decomposition, and uptake and metabolism, can act to reduce concentrations of problematic water quality constituents flowing into wetlands. Similarly, streams, ponds, and lakes can act as natural treatment system...
متن کاملConstructed Wetlands for Water Treatment: New Developments
Constructed wetlands (CWs) are currently regarded as established eco-technologies to treat water pollution. Although considered near-natural systems, they are totally engineered solutions for which research has been actively developed over the past decades. This paper provides a brief meta-analysis on the latest scientific publications in the field and an overview of the special issue focused o...
